Who we are
Escape the Deep Forest is a single-player browser game run by its owner (“we”). Contact: the contact address has not been set yet.
What we collect
You can play as a guest: then we do not collect your email, name or any account details. We only get a random anonymous ID (Firebase Anonymous Authentication) stored in your browser, so we can count how many people play. If you choose to sign in with Google (Firebase Authentication), we receive and store:
- your email address, your Google display name and profile picture link;
- a unique account ID, and the dates and times you created your account and last signed in.
We do not receive your Google password.
Visit statistics
To learn how many people play and which countries and sites they come from, we use Cloudflare Web Analytics. It does not use cookies, does not follow you across other websites and does not build a profile of you. It counts things like page views, country, browser and device type, and the site that sent you here.
Rewarded ads
The game can offer optional rewarded ads: you choose to watch a short video to get a small bonus (for example getting back up once after you die). Nothing in the game needs an ad. Google's ad code is not loaded when the page opens: it is fetched only at the moment you choose to watch a rewarded ad. The guide pages of this site (how to play, survival, animals and so on) show no ads and load no ad code. When you watch an ad, it is provided by Google (AdSense / Ad Manager), which may use cookies or similar technology and your device information to choose and measure ads, under Google's advertising policies. We do not give Google your name, email or game data. In some regions you will be asked for your consent first. If ads are not switched on, none of this applies.
Anonymous play statistics
To see where players get stuck or leave, the game can send a few anonymous events through Google Analytics for Firebase: that a game started, that you survived the first night, reached the ranger tower, how you died (for example “wolf”) and after how many minutes, how you escaped, or that you left in the first five minutes. These events carry no name, no email and no link to your Google sign-in or guest ID. Google Analytics stores a random identifier in your browser to tell visits apart, and we turn off advertising uses. You can switch this off at any time in Settings → Share anonymous play statistics.
Daily challenge board
If you finish the daily challenge, your escape time, the route, the ending and a display name are stored in Google Firestore and shown on that day's board to other players. The name is your Google first name and last initial, or "Guest-xxxx" for guests, or a name you type yourself in the menu. No email is shown. Lines are not deleted automatically; write to us to have yours removed.
Cloud save
If you sign in with Google, the game copies your saved game (your position, pack, map progress and notes) to a private document in Google Firestore that only your Google account can read, so you can continue on another phone or computer. Guests are never copied: their save stays in their own browser. You can delete the cloud copy at any time in the menu (☁ Delete cloud save), and deleting your account's data on request is possible by writing to us.
What stays on your device
Your game progress, saves and settings are stored in your own browser (local storage). They are not sent to us. Clearing your browser’s site data deletes them.
Why we use it
- to let you sign in if you choose to, and to know who signed in;
- to contact you about the game if you write to us, or about a problem with your account.
We do not sell your data, show ads, or use it for tracking or marketing.
Who handles it
- Google (Firebase Authentication) stores the sign-in data above and processes the sign-in.
- Cloudflare hosts the game, delivers it to you, counts visits (see “Visit statistics”) and may keep ordinary server logs (such as IP address) for a short time.
These providers may process data outside your country. See their own privacy policies.
How long we keep it
Your account stays until you ask us to delete it.
Your choices: access, correction and deletion
You can ask us to show you what we hold, correct it, or delete your account and sign-in data. Write to the contact address above from the email you signed in with, and we will delete it within 30 days. You can also remove the game’s access to your Google account at myaccount.google.com/permissions.
Children
The game is not meant for children under 13 (or the age required in your country without a parent’s consent). Do not sign in if you are under that age.
Changes
If this notice changes, the date at the top changes too.
