About the real animal

The bonnet macaque is a monkey of southern India, named for the whorl of hair on the crown that looks like a bonnet. It lives in large, noisy troops with a clear hierarchy. Macaques eat fruit, seeds, insects and anything people leave out, and they store food in their cheek pouches to eat later. They are bold, learn quickly and are known for stealing from people.
