Lion-tailed macaque: facts, danger and how to survive it
A rare, black macaque with a silver mane, found only in the rainforests of the Western Ghats. It lives high in the canopy.
About the real animal
The lion-tailed macaque is an endangered monkey found only in the rainforests of the Western Ghats. It is black with a silvery-white mane around the face and a tufted tail like a lion's. It lives high in the canopy of mature rainforest, eats fruit, seeds, leaves and insects, and rarely comes to the ground. It is very sensitive to the loss of forest, and only a few thousand are left in the wild.
In the game
A rare and shy monkey of the deep forest canopy. It stays high in the trees, so a pair of binoculars or the photo mode is the best way to find one. It is an excellent addition to your field guide.
