Nilgiri langur: facts, danger and how to survive it
A glossy black leaf-eating monkey of the hill forests. It calls with a loud whoop.
About the real animal
The Nilgiri langur is a glossy black, long-tailed leaf-eating monkey of the hill forests of the Western Ghats, with a golden-brown crown. It lives in troops, eats leaves, flowers and fruit, and gives a loud whooping call. Its stomach has several chambers to digest leaves, so it needs to rest after eating. It is a vulnerable species because its mountain forests have been cut.
