Escape the Deep Forest

Bear: facts, danger and how to survive it

Big, strong and usually calm. It stands up and roars before it charges, and a mother with a cub is far more dangerous.

About the real animal

The brown bear is one of the largest land predators, with a heavy build, a hump of muscle over the shoulders and long, curved claws. It is an omnivore and eats mostly plants, roots, berries and insects, with fish and meat when available. A bear may stand on its hind legs to see and smell farther, and this is usually curiosity, not aggression. A mother with cubs is the most dangerous bear of all. Bears sleep through the coldest months in dens.

In the game

Bears are big, strong and usually calm. When one is alarmed it stands up on its hind legs and roars, which is a warning, not yet an attack: back away slowly and it will usually let you go. If you stay, it charges. Never come between a mother and her cub. A bear has a lot of health and hits hard, so fight it only with a rifle and from a distance.
