Escape the Deep Forest

Wolf: facts, danger and how to survive it

Pack hunters that spread out and circle. They howl to call the pack together, so a howl nearby means more are coming.

About the real animal

The Indian wolf is a smaller, paler relative of the grey wolf. It lives in dry open country, in small packs of a few animals, often a breeding pair and their young. Wolves hunt by following a herd, picking out the weak, and chasing it until it tires. They coordinate by body language and by howling, and a howl can be heard for several kilometres. The grey wolf of colder lands, with its thick, grizzled coat, lives in larger packs and can bring down much larger animals.

In the game

Wolves hunt in packs and are the main danger at night. They spread out and circle, and they howl to call the pack together, so a howl nearby means more are coming. They run faster than you, so you cannot outrun them in the open. Get your back to a wall or a fire, because fire keeps most animals away. In the game, wolves hunt deer and will fight bears and cougars.
